Welcome back for Snap Tip #3! I apologize that this is coming late, but due to a sick little one last week, I was unable to get it posted. The good news is we will catch up by posting TWO snap tips this week! Hooray!
Okay, so if you found your manual, as instructed in Snap Tip #1, you’re all set. If you didn’t….well shame on you! Go find it! Okay, grab that baby and find the section about your flash. Snap Tip #3 is “Know the effective range of your flash”. If you don’t know the effective range of your flash (and it is different for each camera), you may be getting overexposed images from shooting too close, OR you may be firing from too far back, and the flash cannot properly illuminate your subject. For instance, my manual indicates that the range of the flash on my point-and-shoot camera is 2.6 feet to 18 feet. Therefore, I know that I can shoot an image of something as close as, we’ll say 3 feet, to as far away as 18 feet. However, once the subject is further than 18 feet away, THE FLASH DOES NO GOOD!!! Have you ever been to a concert or ball game and seen thousands of flashes going off? Well guess what! They are completely useless at that distance! More later on which mode is best for concerts/ball games, etc. Okay, so get your manual, find out the effective range of your flash, and fire away! Be sure and let me know how you are using 'Snap Tips' to get better images. I'd love for you to come back and comment on your shots!
Oh, and be watching for Snap Tip #4 in the next day or two and Happy Snapping!
